
Joe is very active across South Carolina. He is involved in local and state politics, having worked on numerous political campaigns. Elected in 2014 as the top vote-getter of the four seats on the ballot, Bowers served for four years as a member of the Board of School Trustees of St. James-Santee Constituent School District No. 1 of Charleston County. In 2016, he was appointed by the county superintendent of education to serve on the Charleston County School District’s Strategic Planning Committee. During his term on the school board, Joe served as a liaison to Wando High School, as well as, Chairman of the Districts No. 1 & 2 Joint Consolidation Proposal Committee.


Joe currently serves as the Executive Director of the South Carolina Young Republicans. He previously served as Chairman of the Charleston Young Republicans, Secretary of South Carolina’s First Congressional District Republican Party, Treasurer of the East Cooper Republican Club, and President of the Awendaw Precinct for the Charleston County Republican Party.

A ninth-generation native South Carolinian, Joe Bowers is a parishioner of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Downtown Charleston. Bowers is a member of the Monsignor John L. Manning Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Charleston Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Committee. He has served on the Awendaw Blue Crab Festival Committee, W.H. Alston Library Committee (Chairman), Awendaw Town Hall Building Taskforce, and Bulls Bay Nature Festival Founding Committee. After attending Bishop England High School, Joe graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from The Citadel.
